Zhewei Sun received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 2024, under the supervision of Professor Yang Xu. Prior to Toronto, he received an M.S. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology (working with Professor Jacob Eisenstein) and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.
Zhewei’s research focuses on Natural Language Processing (NLP), with a particular interest in making NLP systems robust to highly contextual and creative language use. His research employs both data-driven NLP approaches based on deep learning, as well as knowledge-driven approaches that combine traditional NLP techniques with linguistic and cognitive knowledge about human language. He is a recipient of the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology, and his work has been recognized at top-tier NLP venues, including EMNLP, NAACL, and TACL.
